Didn’t know how to drive stick but refused to let anyone else drive it home. Only stalled once! Yay me!

Kinja'd!!!

Pic from the day of. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to Oppo.

I don’t think I truly appreciated it for what it was until this past year. I kept thinking, did I make a mistake? Why did I buy new? I like hatchbacks but I love trucks. Should I have bought that Mustang GT? I want a V8 again.

Kinja'd!!!

I kept arguing with myself but one day, I can’t recall when, I was driving along and was finally calm. I started to enjoy the vehicle the way I did when I first got it. Sure, I’ve bottomed out on dirt roads, scraped speedbumps, had my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and was hit while !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but those are minor issues. I’ve had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , impromptu photoshoots during lunch and investigated the ignition switch !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’m piling on the mileage now with my new (past year) commute and every time I walk to my car I smile. It shines among the lot filled with grey, black and white cars. I look forward to running this into the ground myself or with my brother, who may eventually own it. Then, when it’s on its way out, we’ll gut it, install a rollcage and rally the shit out of it.

Because it’s a monster.

I clearly can’t say that I never looked back after buying it but I can say I’ve looked forward and it’s all good.

AMA about it or my experience with it, if you want.

I wish I could answer that.

Looking back at it, I was terrified that the entire side of my car was destroyed (since I only saw the mirror missing at first) so it could have been worse.

I did a 2 year lease on another vehicle beforehand and saved up/researched like crazy.

I’m jealous of your car. I love that car. So much fun to drive. Enjoy!

I did something similar to you with picking up a car with a manual when I just learned stick. It was the most nerve-racking ride I’ve ever had. I’d never change the experience for the world though. So much excitement and fear all at once ha.

Don’t be jealous...be even! BUY ALL THE FOSTS!

:p

Trial by fire is the best way to learn, in my opinion.

I’ve been driving stick since before I got my license. I’m 21. I stalled on the way home earlier. The FiST clutch is weird.

Glad you love it mate.

I got my second Superb, no test drive, etc... just walked in, placed an order, paid the deposit and was out of the dealership in 30 minutes.

Picked the car up and though the car came in a darker colour than ordered and the wrong wheels (better wheels). I fell in love with her straight away and never thought about another car.

If I were to be given £40,000 to buy another car or keep the Superb, I’d definitely keep the Superb.

It’s great when it works out.

I know a guy who spent £53,000 on a BMW 3 Series with carbon fibre extras and after one week he hated it, traded it in after several months for a BMW X6, a year later he now drives a BMW M5 with Competition Pack.

I’m in Boston and the winter we had 10' of snow was the best.

And sometimes I didn’t even shovel it out. It has weight over the front and the torque to just pull through everything. I have the cheapest side of wheels/tires you can buy and it’s still perfect.

I had no idea what I wanted through 6 months of research and test drives. When I got to the FoST, I drove nothing else. It just felt right as my first car and first one with a manual. The shifting was smooth and pretty forgiving. It’s obnoxious. It’s great.

A friend of mine who bought a car months before instantly regretted his decision...but he’s living with it. I don’t think he knew what he wanted, just thought he did.

It’s great when you know what you want. Better when your decision is confirmed even years later.

I didn’t track the first 3 months but since then I’ve averaged 24.6 mpg. Recent trend has been closer to 27 mpg because my commute flipped in terms of highway:local ratio.

Good to know for whenI re-evalute in a couple years. Right now I’m leaning towards the new Volvo wagon though.

Taxi driving friends had Mk2 Skoda Superbs so when it came to getting a new car, after being around and riding in them we knew a Mk2 Superb was for us.

Kinja'd!!!

Then after three years of ownership, it was a no brainer to get a Mk3 Superb.

Most excellent reply, sir, and I thank you for it. Your results are better than what I have been hearing, which is encouraging! Little tank, though, huh? What is it, 12 gallon?

Tank is how I call it with winter wheels. 0 fucks given haha.

I think I’ve been fortunate in my results...lowest was 18mpg during a massive blizzard. Otherwise, no real issues outside of the ones I mentioned in the post. Those aren’t Fords fault though.

12 gallon tank, about 300 mile range though I never hit that haha. Tend to get to 280 max but fill up around 240.
